From cyclists looking for info on a 79 'Harley Davidson Fat Bob.?

I am a new rider with very little knowledge about scoots. I'm buying the 1979 fxef Fat Bob as my first bike, and try to get information on the extent practicable, namely common problems, curiosities, etc. I have heard that this is not the best scooter to start, but I can not pass (it lot) Thanks. http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/harley-davidson_fxe-f_1200_fat_bob_1979.php The price is $ 3,500. I'm buying it from my uncle who bought it with 500 km on it in 79 '. I know he has put some work into it, and he swears by the bike. Since it was the bike 30 years I'm hoping he got some reliability problems developed, and discover all the mods he has done in the past will not be a problem. it will be a learning experience to discover whats been changed in this regard over the past 30 years. a stock 79 may be either a 1200cc or 1340. could be a top ratchet top tranny or a turret. it will probably drip oil the internal primary. its best to get used to. If you have a lot of free time you can put a new O-ring between the engine and inner primary, but will probably still drip a little. Contrary to popular opinion, a shovel motor oil can be made tite with new gaskets and seals. Most leaks are all external oil lines when they drive from the age. get about 10 feet from the new oil change and a both. If the push rod tubes leaking silicone bleu obtain stem seals thrust of one of the following catalogs market, their much better the original rubber and cork gaskets. it's a good idea to put new gaskets rubber band between the intake manifold and the heads every 3 or 4 years.they wear out & crack & leak intake can cause many problems. run 91 octane gas, 93 if you can get. directly use 60W motor oil. shovels do not like 20/50 and they will do their best to get rid of any 20/50 you put in them and are lot of mechanical noise while doing it .. spend several months getting to know your personality 79 before starting to abuse it and you can mount it another 30 years with a ring and casual valve. brace yourself
